The Ipoh Cantonese Heritage Trail - aka Ipoh Heritae Trail 3

I am grateful to YB Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Binti Dato’ Mohammad Radzi, Perak State Exco in charge of Tourism as well as YBhg Dato’ Hj. Rumaizi Bin Bahrin @ Md Daud, the mayor of Ipoh for this opportunity to document this historical account of the early tin miners who founded Paloh (and later known as Ipoh) that leads to the creation of the Ipoh Cantonese Heritage Trail.

The trail will help highlight the spots which have historical significance based on the contribution of the Chinese sub-ethnic Hakka migrants and then made vibrant by the Cantonese. It will form part of the four main heritage trails in Ipoh in promoting heritage tourism and the economy well-being of Perakians and Ipohites.

I wish to thank all the earlier writers and contributors for their accounts on the history of Chinese migrants in Perak for which most parts of my writing are based on. Among the authors I wish to specially mentioned here include; Ian Anderson (Ipoh World), Dr. Ho Tak Ming (Ipoh When Tin Was King), Samantha Khor (SAY), Halim Henry Berbar (Ipoh: The Untold Story), Ho Fah See (A Brief History of Paloh Koo Miu Temple Committee), Tan Sri Hew See Tong (Edited by Dr. Wong - The Tin Industry of The Past for The Future), Dr. Leong Oon Keong (A Grandfather Story: Leong Sin Nam 1880 – 1940), The Ipoh Echo, The Star, The News Straits Times, Emily2U blogger and many other significant authors.

Special thanks to my research assistant, Mr. Wong Kian Hing (of Sin Chew Press cum Member of the Steering Committee of Heritage Trail (HT3) who have helped me get started and interested in doing this research. Other individuals who have helped me during the early stages of my research include Mr. Mak Chen Choong (Perak Nam Hoi Association), and the three Perak Chinese Associations’ Chairmen from Perak Nam Hoi Association, Perak Pun Yue Association and Perak Shun Tak Association for their support and encouragement, which forms part of the HT3 Steering Committee Members.

I would also like to thank Dato’ Liew Chee Ming, President of Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) and Dato’ Chin Lean Choong for the documents on the history of tin miners and Paloh Ku Miu Temple. And last but not least, I wish to thank Mr. Wong Tong Meng, CEO of The Loyal Academy Sdn. Bhd. for his support in promoting ICHT through the Urban Tourism course conducted.
